Montgomery High School a high school in unincorporated Montgomery County, Texas, west of the City of Montgomery. A part of the Montgomery Independent School District. It feeds from the town of Montgomery, as well as a large portion of unincorporated Montgomery County, including most of west and south shores of Lake Conroe, and as far south as The Woodlands, Texas. In the years of 2013, 2014, and 2015, Montgomery High School was named one of Newsweek's Best schools in America. Montgomery High School offers Dual Credit and Advanced Placement courses for students.

History

The original regional grade school, then called Area Private School, opened in 1850 on what is now the Church Of Christ In Montgomery. After the creation of Montgomery ISD, the first high school opened in 1931 on what is now Montgomery Middle School. The final building opened in 1967 west of town on Highway 105, where the school still currently stands. A huge increase in local population caused the school to be expanded in 1998 and again in 2005, where the original 1967 building remains as the freshman campus.

UIL Awards

Montgomery High School choir students have earned a total of 28 UIL Sweepstakes Awards over the past nine years, in large part to the efforts of UIL choir sponsor Heather Orr. In 2010, Orr had four students recognized at the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest as outstanding soloists.

During Suzanne Ray's time heading the Theatre department, Montgomery has collected 5 state appearances. In 2006, Montgomery won state in the UIL One Act Play competition, claiming the 1st place State Championship of 4A schools in Texas. Montgomery High School returned to State in 2007, and again to the State level of competition in 2008 placing 2nd Runner-up. In 2014 Montgomery returned to the state level of competition and won first runner up, and another state title appearance in 2016 that took 2nd Runner Up in 6A UIL One Act Play Competition.

On Monday, April 2, 2012, MHS took a group of approximately 50 students to Brenham to compete in the district UIL Academic Meet. Montgomery High School was presented with one 1st place award, six 2nd place awards, two 3rd place awards, five 4th place awards, six 5th place awards, and one 6th place award respectively.
